Jurassic Life: A game TOO MANY years in the making

Hello everyone!  It's been a while but we are back and ready to go!!

Well over the past few weeks where I have gone M.I.A., I have stumbled upon some very exciting and encouraging news in the world of gaming.  As many of you may know, Universal is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the original Jurassic Park film by re-releasing it in 3D on April 5.  I am personally an enormous fan of the Jurassic Park franchise but it hasn't been on par with what it could be as of late.

Since the original film has released in 1993, the quality of the franchise has steadily gone down, especially from a gaming standpoint.  The latest release, Telltale Games's Jurassic Park: The Game, had much hype like most of the other JP titles before it, only to fall well short of that hype and expectations.

Who wouldn't want to relive something like this?

I own that game and while it was an interesting concept since it was entirely played using button sequences, it's not the right direction for the franchise to take.  One of the elements that makes Jurassic Park great is the amount of stress, tension and suspense the films provided.  Watching characters struggle to escape a pack of velociraptors never seems to get old or any less exciting.

Another element is exploration.  In order for a game like this to work, freedom needs to be available to the players.  I for one have always wondered what the rest of Isla Nublar looks like and what secrets it might hold.  Fortunately, after all this time, there is a group of individuals and JP fans who are taking those elements and many others and molding them into the game the franchise so rightfully deserves.

Here's a look at how the game is progressing.

Jurassic Life has been under development for years since the guys making it are creating it as a side job.  Their project has caught the attention of IGN and other big game informers, but a release date hasn't been given, only them saying that it will be ready to play "when it's done."

Based off of what I've seen so far, this title has a legitimate shot at becoming the game that could finally set the gaming side of the franchise on the right track.  After all these years, it appears that someone is finally about to get Jurassic Park right.

  1. This game looks like it could be a real hit. I remember playing variations of this franchise on some of the older consoles the were fun but were very limited due to the era in whicn there were created. Any idea of the story behind this game? Also, as far as content goes, it's great. Have you ever considered using a capture card to get footage from the games that you review? Keep up the great work?

    1. Thanks for the comment Tyler! From what I've heard, the plot of Jurassic Life has not been finalized but it will follow a separate story that takes place during the time of the first movie.
